In the heart of downtown Cincinnati’s restaurant and theater district for 30 years, the Cincinnati Arts Association’s Weston Art Gallery is acclaimed for its support of emerging and professional artists working in all media, locally and throughout the region. With galleries on two levels and 3,500 square feet of exhibition space, the Weston offers one-on-one assistance and support to artists to showcase their work in museum-quality environs through a diverse slate of exhibitions.
POSITION SUMMARY: The Chief Preparator is responsible for planning, implementing, and maintaining all aspects of Gallery exhibitions and related operations. This position works closely with the Gallery Director, artists, and internal departments to ensure the professional and timely execution of exhibition installations, the maintenance of gallery spaces, and the overall presentation and functionality of exhibitions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Planning, Implementation, and Installation of Gallery Exhibitions
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in fine arts, Art History, Museum Studies, or related field; equivalent experience may be considered. Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in gallery, museum, or exhibition installation work. Strong knowledge of art handling standards and installation techniques for both 2D and 3D artworks. Experience with electronic media, performance installations, and audiovisual equipment preferred. Basic carpentry, painting, and fabrication skills required; comfort with hand and power tools. Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills. Strong interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with artists, staff, and vendors. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required for exhibition openings, performances, and special events.
