Xavier University’s Office of Counseling Services is seeking applications for the position of Director of Counseling Services.  Rooted in our Jesuit heritage the commitment of 'care for the entire person' the Director of Counseling Services is responsible for the delivery of clinical services, outreach, and consultation services to meet the psychological and behavioral needs of full-time and part-time undergraduate and graduate students enrolled at Xavier. This senior-level administrator leads a team of professional clinicians and trained graduate interns. The center Director develops policies and procedures for service; evaluation of programs and monitors the standards of clinical service effectiveness; coordination, recruitment, training, supervision, and evaluation of professional staff and graduate interns. The Director is a practicing mental health clinician, providing counseling, crisis intervention, clinical supervision, outreach, and consultation services to the University community.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversees Counseling Services operations and delivery of clinical services.
  • Provides counseling and psychotherapy to students in individual and group formats; engages in triage, diagnostic interviewing, and development and implementation of treatment plans. Provides crisis intervention and emergency mental health services for students on campus, and through after hours on-call system. Provides group therapy and psychoeducational interventions to students. Maintains appropriate licensure.
  • Conducts outreach services to the University community to disseminate information about wellness and mental health issues and their treatment. Attends and participates in professional development and conferences. Engages in program evaluation, quality assurance, and research. Participates in Student Affairs and University committees as requested. Serves as the Student Affairs liaison regarding the implementation of policies and procedures regarding mental health issues on campus.
  • Plans and manages Counseling Services departmental budget, including staffing and programming expenses. Performs other duties as assigned. Provides oversight of the implementation, maintenance, and daily utilization of Counseling Services electronic medical record system.
  • Coordinates and supervises all urgent care response of students in psychological crisis referred to Xavier Counseling Services. Urgent care coordination includes being a member of the Xavier Action and Care Team, fostering relationships with outside agency referrals, and clarification of the referral procedures with outside agencies, while working in conjunction with the Dean of Students office and the Care Management Coordinator.
JOB REQUIREMENTS: 
  • Master’s degree required
  • Doctorate degree preferred in Counseling
  • 3-5 years of related experience
  • Have a valid license (or obtain within six months of hire) as a Professional Clinical Counselor (PCC) in Ohio.
  • Knowledge of theoretical and applied models of interventions is required in order to deliver competent mental health services. Competence is required for the delivery of: counseling and psychotherapy, consultation, and training.
  • Clinical counseling supervisor credentials and experience (PCC-S).
