  • About

The Bourbon Stock Yards Company was organized in 1834 and became one of the major terminal livestock markets in the United States. The growth of the Stock Yards contributed to the formation of several meatpacking and related industries in the Butchertown area.

By the turn of the century, the growth of livestock activities created a demand for a bank located in the Butchertown area that could conveniently render banking services to the community. These circumstances led to the organization of Stock Yards Bank on September 17, 1904.

Through the years, the Bank established its reputation as a sound financial institution-a reputation enhanced during the Depression beginning in 1929 when Stock Yards Bank was one of the few banks to remain open. Although closely associated with the livestock industry and the Butchertown area, the Bank has not tied its growth solely to the strengths of the industry or that area of Louisville. The Bank’s trade area has grown to include business and individual accounts from all sections of our metropolitan area, as well as Indianapolis & Cincinnati.

As the customer base and market area serviced by the Bank have grown, so has the Bank. From the full line of commercial banking services traditionally offered by the Bank, it has added a variety of other services for its customers, such as trust, mortgage and brokerage.
